Baratang Island is one of the best places to visit in Andaman. Baratang Island has a conglomerate of natural wonders to flaunt. How to reach Baratang island
Baratang Island is about 100kms away from Portblair. You can hire a private cab for yourself to reach Baratang Island. The journey takes about 2hours and 30 minutes from Port blair to middle strait. You will pass through the protected reserve forest which is the home of one of the indigenous tribes of Andaman Island. If you are lucky, you could also have a glance of them. From middle strait you get vehicle ferries to Baratang. The ferry takes about 15 minutes to reach Baratang.

Places to visit at Baratang island
Limestone Cave of Baratang island
Limestone caves are massive sedimentary rock formations formed by centuries of deposition of marine life, shells, skeletons and corals. These magnificient limestone formations are found hanging from the top of the cave, some from the bottom and all these evolve to form different intricate shapes every year. Some caves are so darker and deeper that you will need light to see anything inside. It is advised to wear a good set of shoes for comfort as the caves are little slippery. Lime stone caves are half an hour boat ride from Baratang. The boat ride passes through a narrow passage covered with thick mangroves form both the sides forming a natural tunnel which is an experience in itself! A further one and half Km walk through mangroves from the main creek through the tropical forest. This is a perfect place for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Limestone caves in Baratang Islands is a must visit when you plan a Holiday trip to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Mud Volcano of Baratang island
Mud Volcano at Baratang island is approachable by road from Nilambur jetty. One has to reach up to Jarawa creek by vehicle. From Jarawa Creek Mud volcano is at a walkable distance of 250-300 meters. Mud volcanoes are basically formed by the ejection of geo-excreted gases and liquids. Mud volcanoes magically spill out boiling mud from the ground that oozes out to form a miniature volcanic structure with a creamy muddy crater at the top. The mud volcanoes of Baratang Island are very sporadic in nature. Very few places in the world can boast of the mud volcano. In fact, the Mud volcanoes at Baratang Island is “The only known mud volcano in the entire South-Asia region”! So, don’t just cast it away. It is one of the most amazing natural wonders in India.
