About Diglipur
Diglipur is the largest Island town in the Andamans. This little tropical heaven has so many specialities and it harbours some of the rarest attractions that you can’t find anywhere else in the Andamans. It is famous for its innocent beauty and simplicity. The magnificient “Twin Islands” lies here, “Kalpong”, the only river of Andaman flows here, largest peak of Andaman and Nicobar Islands lies here and there is much more to witness. How to reach Diglipur
It takes about 13 hours to reach Diglipur from Port blair through the Andaman Trunk Road crossing three creeks on the way and the Jarawa tribe area. It’s majorly a coastal route which sometimes gets into an inexorably thick jungle. The journey of about 13 hours through tropical rain forest of Andaman is favorite among adventure seekers and those interested in flora and rural life of these islands. You can hire a cab for yourself to enjoy your journey to Diglipur.

Places to visit at Diglipur
Ross and Smith Islands
Not to be confused by Ross Island near Port Blair, Ross and Smith Islands also known as the “Twin Islands” hold their own among the many beaches around Andaman. What makes Ross and Smith islands truly beautiful and sets them apart from the rest of the islands is that, these two islands are joined by a natural sand bar! During high tide, the sand bar disappears leaving a trail of water between the two islands and during low tide the sand bar appears again making the islands look majestic! There is a Marine Sanctuary on the island which makes it an ideal place for spotting beautiful coral reefs and colourful species from the underwater. Walk from one island to the other on a narrow sandy white trail, amidst surrounding lush green glens and water crystal clear and gem green in color. This is a best place to visit in Andaman for honeymooners while standing amidst such scenic abundance, one does not want to leave its crib. The Ross and Smith Islands is indeed beauty at its epitome and a dream destination for all those who plan a holiday trip to the Andamans.

Saddle Peak National Park
Saddle peak, Diglipur is the highest point of the archipelago in Bay of Bengal. The grand Saddle peak stands 732 meters from the sea level. It rises from the dense evergreen forests which is a habitat of many species of birds, insects and trees which are endemic to Andaman Islands. Due to the richness in the forest covering saddle peak, it is now declared as a National Park. Saddle peak is famous for trekking; its 8km long steep climb is a challenge for even experienced climbers, especially on a sunny day. The saddle peak Diglipur gives a rare experience for the eco friendly tourisis. The sight from the three view points is a vision to behold! You will experience true beauty of nature’s creation when you visit Diglipur. It’s indeed a Natural Paradise.

Ramnagar Beach
This unsullied beach is located far from the Diglipur town and is more like heaven on earth. With its lush green mangroves and thick forest vines surrounding the place, it is a vision to behold. The white sandy beach and crystal clear water makes Ramnagar beach ideal for swimming and water activities. A natural trial for trekkers is an added attraction to this wonder. Ramnagar beach is also well known for turtle nesting. Eco-friendly beach facilities like eco-huts, benches and seating arrangements have been provided here. You cannot complete a visit to Diglipur if you haven’t been to the village of Ram Nagar.

Kalipur Beach
The kalipur beach is located about 18 kms from the Diglipur town. Kalipur is famous for its rocky beach and “Turtle hatchery”. Yes, you heard it right! It is one of the few beaches in the world where Olive ridley, Hawksbill, Leatherback and Green turtles comes to nest their eggs. If you are lucky, you can see those tiny little turtles popping out of their shells and making their way to the sea. The kalipur beach has grey coloured sand with tiny dead corals and shells embedded in it with lush green mangrove vines embracing the shoreline. During Low tide you can see the lining of dead corals breaking the surface of the sea, and you can also spot tiny marine creatures like starfish, sea cucumber and crabs. Kalipur is indeed a place for true adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers. If you plan a holiday trip to Andaman, then Kalipur beach at diglipur is a must visit.

Lamiya Bay Beach
Lamiya Bay Beach is located a few kms ahead from kalipur beach. You will be surprised if you expect a regular beach, lamiyabay marks the foothills of Saddle peak, “Highest peak of Andaman”! This beautiful beach has a long stretch of sand covered with shells and fine polished pebbles. If you have a craving for solitude, then Lamiyabay beach is what you were searching for. You can have long moments of silence at the beach while meditating within yourself with the peaceful sound of the waves crashing on the shores. So leave everything behind and visit Lamiyabay beach to bring inner peace and calmness to your mind.
